Starting price
Jump to section Show
The starting price, or SP as it is commonly referred to as, is the price a horse goes off at when a race gets underway. These odds are set by bookmakers but do tend to change due to the public betting on different selections.
When placing a bet on the day of a race, the bettor is given the option of placing a bet on the starting price or placing the bet at the time of striking the bet. Some bookmakers now offer best odds guaranteed, meaning that if a bet is taken at the time of striking a bet but the starting price is larger, they will payout the starting price.
